#648 – Vine Mill, Oswaldtwistle

I was in ‘Ossy’ on the way back from somewhere else, so I thought I’d swing by this place as it’s been in my list for a while. It’s not the most visually interesting mill, so I took a couple of record photographs and then went down a lane at the side to see if I could get some different perspectives.

The mills that are pictured here are Mills 3 and 4, Mills 1 and 2 were demolished in 2012 and I didn’t get chance to photograph them. The land they stood on is now a weed strewn wasteland, so it gave me something of a foreground.

Unlike Stonebridge Mill in my previous posts, the remaining mills are of brick construction (circa 1906/1907) and spinning ended in 1967. The older Mills 1 and 2 were of stone construction.

The mill doesn’t appear to be in too bad a shape compared with some, and is mainly used by a furniture company who use it a ‘sofa superstore’, while round the side are the inevitable collection of garages / bodyshop type businesses.
