#621 – Butts Mill, Leigh 2

Butts Mill sits opposite Dootsons Park Playing Fields, and a game of youth football had just finished when I got there. This was a shame as it would have been nice to have got some players in the frame when I photographed the mill, but I think an empty pitch works equally well.

I decided to make a feature of the goal posts, but did two different versions. The one was taken at 24mm, and this shows the mill really dominating the scene, towering over the field.

For the second one, I used a super-wide angle 14-30 at 14mm and this changed the perspective a lot. For a start, it had an unusual impact on the goal post, really exaggerating the angles, and making one end look a lot higher than the other! The mill also appears further away and it’s less dominant in the frame. I think I prefer the first one, but I’ve shown the two photos on Instagram and opinion seems to be divided.
