#543 – Review of the decade – 2012

2012 was a very barren year photographically, at least from the perspective of urbex and industrial landscape. Just the one place visited and that was a revisit to one of my favourite places – Dinorwic.

Dinorwic – March 2012

I decided for this, my second visit to this enormous slate quarry, to use film and a compact Fuji X10 digital camera. The weather was as bad as my first visit which made for some lovely skies! The pace of change here is slow and nothing had changed since my first visit in 2009, but since then the railway track over the ravine has succumbed to gravity. A revisit is on the cards for this year to take in some areas that I’ve not yet seen.

These are lovely, just “my kind of photography”. I wonder when I have time to make my slate quarry pictures… I don’t find anything wrong with the sky. Well, it actually matters only on the second pic, but in the rest the sky is perfect, at least to my mind.

Thanks Katrina, it’s a fabulous place that I’ve left too long to go back to. It is dangerous though – the guy I was going to visit it with broke his ankle there over the Christmas holidays and the mountain rescue team had to come and take him out of the quarry to an ambulance. He wasn’t even in a dangerous place, he just placed his foot badly on the path and fell over. Ouch!

Oh, that’s terrible. I have been thinking sometimes that I have been lucky as I always go everywhere on my own, and not even have a phone.

Same here. I prefer to photograph on my own but I’ve taken a few risks over the years despite being very cautious by nature.

I have only later been thinking that something could have happened when I photographed in Coniston copper mines area as I didn’t always followed the paths. But yes, I was lucky.

Oh, yes, that sounds like a great idea. Looking forward to seeing the results already 🙂
