I’m still figuring out how to compose photographs from above – while the options are theoretically unlimited, in reality, with a fixed wide angle lens and limitations on where you can fly (distance to buildings, overflying issues, etc) then in reality, interesting compostions aren’t as easy as you might think. But photographs from directly above are a reliable fallback and make for an interesting viewpoint.
These are a couple from above, one quite high, the other from a slightly less ambitious height.
That second image is nice and interesting, like an abstract piece of art. Yeah, I believe that it’s a real challenge to make interesting photos by using a drone. Of course it depends what you are trying to show, work of art or documentary kind of image. I like the second image – as art. Looking forward to seeing what you will do next with it.

Thanks Katriina. I’ve come to think of the drone as like having a camera in the end of a really long arm! But you are absolutely correct, it depends on the intent of the image as art or documentary. I’m still trying to figure out how I can use it for both of those purposes, but at the moment it’s primarily documentation.
