#122 – A Windmill? In Wigan?

Standing alone in the middle of a field on the outskirts of Wigan is this rather forlorn looking windmill. It was originally built half a mile away to serve the Haigh Brewery, but was at some point moved and rebuilt in its current location. Sadly it’s fallen into disrepair no doubt due to it’s slightly exposed position and the high winds we’ve experienced over the past few years, but happily it would appear that salvation is near with a campaign to restore it currently raising funds http://www.savewigan.co.uk/news.php?id=26 .

This photo was pretty much straight from the camera, the sky really was that colour. It was a strange day weather wise – bright, late afternoon sun behind me (hence the nice foreground), and a huge bank of black clouds ahead of me. Ten minutes later, it was snowing!!

  1. Great capture! The leaden sky contrasts well with the golden sunlight.
